There are available 3 software for a Bioscreen C:

  1. Included free software: EZExperiment
        http://www.bioscreen.fi/freesofware.html

  2. Commercially available software: Norden Lab Bioscreen C Edition
        http://www.bioscreen.fi/comsoftware.htm

  3. Commercially available software: Transgalactic Ltd Research Express

Software Research Express

A software Research Express runs a Microbiology Reader Bioscreen C, generates microbiological growth curves (turbidity versus time graph) and performs microbiological calculations.

Microbiological growth data is collected directly into MS Excel workbook, to more than 20 graphical and microbiology formula sheets. Additionally, a user can create own design MS Excel sheets for display of growth curves or for more specific microbiological calculations.

Demo mode and full mode
Software Research Express works in demo mode or in full mode depending on presence or absence of a hardware key. For full mode a hardware key (a mini dongle) must be connected to a computer. There aren't separate demos or work software - only one "demo-and-full-in-one" software of Growth Curves exists. It works in demo mode (measures OD of 10 wells) if a hardware key is not found and in full mode (measures OD of all 200 wells) if a hardware key is connected to PC.

In demo mode the following limitations exist:

OD of all (200) wells is measured only once
OD of up to 100 wells is measured max. 3 times (3 kinetic readings
OD of up to 25 wells is measured max. 11 times (11 kinetic readings)
OD of less or equal to 10 wells is measured an unlimited amount of times

Experiment workbook
Experiment Workbook is an MS Excel workbook (*.xls) file that contains measurement parameters and an experiment data (sample names, collected OD values, growth curve charts).

Always when starting a new experiment a default experiment workbook will be created automatically. Run default parameters are taken from Growth Curves menu bar Tools - Options window and from Growth Curves menu bar Tools - Data Locking and Protecting window. During a run an all measured OD values are stored in an experiment workbook. Growth curves will appear automatically on charts. After a run a user can add and modify data, as then an experiment workbook is an ordinary MS Excel file.

During a run an experiment workbook is in a protected mode and its structure and most of critical data areas cannot be changed (look a chapter "Data locking and protecting").

Microbiological calculations are done automatically by MS Excel formula. However, a software manufacturer does not have any responsibility for possible mistakes in these illustrative calculation formulas. A user needs to verify before use of default microbiology formula that that these will work in a way he needs. Default charts and default calculations can be modified or deleted at by a user.
