Microbiology Reader |
It is a well known principle that as microorganisms grow, they increase the turbidity of their growth medium. By measuring the turbidity of this medium over time, an optical density (OD) curve can be generated. The curve reflects the growth (increased concentration) if the organism of interest.
Bioscreen system provides a platform for these measurements to be made. The organism of interest and any growth medium may be selected. They are manually dispensed using a multichannel pipette into wells of a special microplate.
Almost any experiment where the growth of bacteria, yeast, fungi, cell or phage are wanted to follow kinetically can be performed with Bioscreen C.
Bioscreen C Analyzer
The instrument includes an incubator to provide constant temperature and a
linear shaker to assure good mixing. The instrument is equipped with a sensitive
reader that measures turbidity, a technique more sensitive than a
spectrophotometer. The reader is equipped with 8 filters to measure specific
wavelengths. Two 100 well sterile honeycomb plates with covers are handled by
the instrument at one time, making it possible to run 200 samples
simultaneously. Turbidometric measurements are made kinetically during the
course of the run. This information is processed to generate microbiological
growth curves, plotting turbidity vs. time. Data is then exported to a PC (to MS
Excel) for report generation.
Unique microbiological workstation for all
needs
Bioscreen C is extremely versatile, it is a whole workstation with incubator,
shaker, dispenser, turbidity reader all in one instrument. With Bioscreen C any
micro-organism can be grown in any liquid growth medium and with any chemical by
using user created test protocols. Additionally, the test length may vary from a
single measurement to three months. Bioscreen makes it possible to complete as
many tests in just a few weeks as would normally take a year using traditional
microbiological techniques.
Honeycomb Microplate
This 10 by 10 well plate is designed to provide a uniform temperature across
each of the 100 wells in the plate. A fitted plate lid with special
characteristics eliminates troublesome condensation which can interfere with OD
readings.
Turbidity and color reader
Bioscreen C measures culture turbidity, which indicates bacterial count better
than the measurement of culture color. Turbidity is measured by a wide band
filter which is rather insensitive to color change in the sample. For color
measurement Bioscreen C has 7 other filters with special wavelengths.
Incubator and optional dispenser
A heating/cooling system provides a wide range of incubation temperatures
(1.0-60.0 °C), and the temperature can be changed during the experiment. The
special technology guarantees that there is no condensed liquid on the lower
side of the multiwell plate cover. Bioscreen has an optional automated sterile
dispensing feature. Sterilization of tips and tubing can be programmed for each
step.
Bioscreen C uniqueness:
By special technique a condensation on plate cover is eliminated and a cover can
kept on multiwell plates during whole run without loss in OD measurement
quality.
